My YouTube Era

“The new frontier lies not beyond the planets but within each one of us.”
~ Pierre Trudeau

Have you heard the news? I have crossed the frontier and I am now what’s called a ‘YouTuber.’ Is that the correct term? I do feel like an other-wordly (or ancient) being using this new (for me) social media platform. After reading all your answers to my recent newsletter survey, it was clear that my lovely followers wanted to see more behind-the-scenes footage of my career. I figured that YouTube was probably the best next step, and video editing is a skill I’m excited to learn. So, here we are!

My YouTube series is titled ‘My Illustrated Life.’ I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes footage of my illustration studio, including process videos, craft and drawing projects, and what it’s like to run a little stationery shop. I’ll also be adding in scenes of other things that interest or inspire me, such as nature walks, delicious foods, my love of collecting vintage ephemera, and most importantly - cute cats! It’s a faceless and voiceless channel (with subtitles however), as I want my work and inspirations to be the main focus. I also prefer this type of content myself as it’s less distracting and more calming. My channel is a creative expression of ‘me’ rather than what others may expect.

My first video was a brief introduction to my 11 year career as an illustrator, neatly packaged into an 11 minute video! That was not easy task, but it was a rewarding challenge to edit a timeline in such a way.

My second video was uploaded today and it features a tour of one half of my studio, along with footage of me packing some shop orders. Would you like to see a full studio tour sometime? I’m not sure how often I will post a video due to my schedule, but I do hope to post as regularly as possible. If you like my videos and wish to see more, please subscribe to my channel to help it grow. Thanks for reading and I hope to see you over on YouTube! ~ Rachel x
